Tuition and student loan help: common questions

How much tuition reimbursement do space companies usually offer?

Many employers stop at $5,250 a year, the amount a US employer can pay toward an employee's education each year without it counting as taxable income (IRS Publication 15-B, educational assistance).

Do I have to stay with the employer after it pays my tuition?

Often, yes: many programs ask the employee to stay a set time after a payment or to repay part of it on leaving early, and many start only after some months of work. Each employer's policy says its own terms, so ask its recruiter before relying on it.

Sources and method

A job counts when a sentence of its posting that names tuition, education assistance or student loan help states a dollar amount: a wage, a bonus and a relocation amount beside it are left out. The amount is as the posting states it, a year, a month or in all, with "up to" kept. Each employer counts once in a figure, at the amount most of its postings state, and tuition help and student loan help are counted apart.
