About the job
## Application close date Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed. At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion.
Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! This role is part of Advanced Concepts and Enterprise Engineering (ACE), supporting Blue Origin’s mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth.
The team fosters innovation and drives engineering workflows of the future, shared solutions and standards, simplicity and lower costs, and manufacturable design. ## About the role Blue Origin is seeking an engineer to improve how our teams define, document, and share product designs across the company.
We are transitioning new designs to model-based definition - a way of capturing design requirements directly in a three-dimensional engineering model. Our long-term goal is to use model-based engineering definitions across the enterprise. In this role, you will develop practical standards, processes, tools, and training to support that transition.
You will help engineers create clear, accurate models in Creo and manage design information in Windchill. You will work with engineering, manufacturing, quality, inspection, supply chain, and operations teams to ensure those models contain the information needed to build, assemble, and inspect our products. You will also help teams consider manufacturing, assembly, and inspection needs earlier in the design process.
The goal is to identify potential problems before they reach production and make product information easier for people and automated tools to use. This is a hands-on engineering and implementation role. Success requires strong technical skills, collaboration across teams, and the ability to help engineers adopt new tools and ways of working.
You may also support automated design checks, Creo customizations, and artificial intelligence tools that assist engineers. Software development experience is helpful but is not required.
Passion for our mission and vision is required. ## Improve engineering models and design standards - Develop and improve standards, templates, processes, and work instructions for defining parts, assemblies, and installations in engineering models. - Ensure these practices align with applicable engineering standards, including ASME Y14.5 and ASME Y14.41. - Turn the needs of engineering, manufacturing, quality, inspection, and other teams into practical guidance for Creo and Windchill users. - Improve the accuracy, consistency, and usability of design information so it can support both people and automated tools. - Connect model-based design practices with the company’s broader engineering and product information systems. ## Help teams design for production - Work with manufacturing, quality, inspection, supply chain, and operations teams to understand what they need from engineering models and documentation. - Translate those needs into design standards, templates, guidance, and model checks. - Participate in design reviews and assess whether designs can be manufactured, assembled, and inspected effectively. - Identify production risks early, when design changes are easier to make. - Use lessons learned from production to improve design requirements, standards, best practices, and training. ## Improve tools and reduce manual work - Identify opportunities to simplify model creation and automate checks for model quality. - Define requirements for Creo customizations, automated design checks, and engineering assistants. - Partner with software, product lifecycle management, information technology, and engineering tools teams to implement these improvements. - Support responsible use of artificial intelligence to help engineers find approved guidance, check standards compliance, validate models, and identify design improvements. ## Train and support engineering teams - Serve as a technical resource for Creo, Windchill, model-based definition, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing - the methods used to specify allowable variation in a design. - Provide hands-on coaching and help engineers and designers resolve modeling and documentation issues through support channels. - Create and deliver training, quick-reference guides, example models, and other practical resources. - Represent model-based design and production-focused design practices in engineering working groups. - Use recurring questions and user feedback to make lasting improvements to tools, processes, standards, and training. ## Minimum qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, aerospace, manufacturing, systems engineering, or a related technical field. - At least eight years of relevant experience in engineering design, systems engineering, or model-based definition. - Advanced Creo skills, including parametric modeling, model-based annotations, and application of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) under ASME Y14.5. - Demonstrated proficiency with Windchill, including managing product information, controlling design configurations, and releasing engineering designs. - Strong understanding of GD&T and how design tolerances affect manufacturing and inspection. - Working knowledge of design practices that improve manufacturability, assembly, and inspection, often called Design for Excellence. - Familiarity with engineering definition and data-exchange standards, including ASME Y14.41, ASME Y14.100, ISO 16792, STEP AP242, and the Quality Information Framework (QIF). - Experience translating stakeholder needs into requirements and verifying that the delivered tools or processes meet those requirements. - Experience developing training, user documentation, or best-practice guides, and helping engineers resolve tool or process issues. - Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to technical and nontechnical audiences. - Demonstrated ability to collaborate across disciplines, earn trust, and contribute to an inclusive team. - Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. ## Position details - Relocation assistance provided. - Travel expected up to 15% of the time. - Schedule: First shift. - Interviews will include a technical assessment. ## Base Pay Range for CO applicants is $133,500.00 - $186,898.95 WA applicants is $145,188.00 - $203,263.20 ## Culture Statement Don’t meet all desired requirements?
Studies have shown that some people are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single desired qualification. At Blue Origin, we are dedicated to building an authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every desired qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway.
You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles. ## Export Control Regulations Applicants for employment at Blue Origin must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e. current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. ## Background Check - Required for all positions: Blue’s Standard Background Check - Required for Certain Job Profiles: Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) background check if at any time the role requires one to be on a military installation - Required for Certain Job Profiles: Drivers who operate Commercial Motor Vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or combination of power unit and trailer that meets or exceeds 10,001 lbs. and/or transports placardable amounts of hazardous materials by gro
