Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products.
To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. Our first MK1 Lunar Lander, christened "Endurance," will be the largest and most complex vehicle ever to land on the moon.
Our second MK1 will continue humanity's exploration of the Lunar south pole by delivering NASA's VIPER rover. Two more MK1 missions, awarded by NASA, will deliver Lunar Terrain Vehicles (LTVs) to the lunar surface as part of NASA's Moon Base program. As part of a hardworking team of specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will be the vehicle-level integrator for MK1's fluid systems.
You'll own the requirements, interfaces, budgets, and design parameters that tie the lander's pressurized systems together. You'll also define and support the integrated vehicle tests that prove those systems are ready to fly: thermal vacuum, tanking, fluids channelization, and proof and leak testing.
Your work will directly shape a vehicle headed for the lunar surface. ## Special Mentions - Location: Seattle, WA or Space Coast, FL - Relocation assistance is provided - Travel expected up to 20% of the time ## Requirements, Interfaces, and Budgets - Maintain vehicle-level fluid system requirements for assigned systems and trace them through verification and validation - Define and manage integrated fluid interface control documents (ICDs) across vehicle subsystems, covering pressures, flow rates, and fluid media - Define and manage design parameters for the integrated fluid systems - Own and maintain the vehicle leak budget, making sure every contribution is tracked, dispositioned, and within acceptable limits.
Manage pressure and fluid budget allocations across subsystems - Own cleanliness and oxygen compatibility verification for fluid systems, making sure hardware meets required cleanliness levels and oxygen service requirements before integration Integrated Vehicle Test - Define proof, leak, and fluids channelization test scope and success criteria for pressurized fluid systems across the vehicle - Own or support vehicle test scope for integrated vehicle tests involving thermal and fluid systems, including integrated vehicle thermal vacuum testing, tanking tests, fluids channelization tests, and proof and leak tests - Define test objectives and success criteria in test matrices, traced to requirements, design parameters, budgets, and interfaces - Review test procedures involving pressurized cryogenic and non-cryogenic fluid systems and support test execution Data Analysis, Anomaly Resolution, and Collaboration - Review and interpret test data to assess performance and health at the system and component level, and to anchor and validate analytical models - Support test and operations by investigating root causes, driving corrective actions, and dispositioning non-conformances and event reports for thermal and fluid systems - Work with internal stakeholders to define the requirements, dependencies, and resources needed to deliver integrated fluid systems and run the associated testing ## Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Physics, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field - 5+ years of experience in aerospace fluids, propulsion, or thermal/fluid systems design, integration, or test - Experience developing, decomposing, and tracing requirements through verification - Experience defining test objectives or reviewing test procedures for pressurized fluid systems, including proof and leak testing - Experience interpreting test data to assess system and component performance - Ability to earn trust and maintain positive and professional relationships ## Preferred Qualifications - 7+ years of experience in aerospace fluids, propulsion, or thermal/fluid systems integration or test - Master's degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field - Experience with integrated vehicle testing such as thermal vacuum, cryogenic tanking, fluids channelization, or stage-level proof and leak tests - Experience with cryogenic and high-pressure systems using oxygen, hydrogen, methane, nitrogen, or helium - Experience building and managing vehicle-level leak budgets and integrated fluid ICDs - Familiarity with oxygen compatibility and cleanliness standards (e.g., ASTM G93, ASTM G63/G94, NASA-STD-6001, IEST-STD-CC1246) - Experience using test data to validate thermal/fluid models (e.g., Thermal Desktop/SINDA-FLUINT, AFT Fathom/Arrow) - Experience with structured problem solving (e.g., RCCA, 8D, FMEA, fault tree analysis) and non-conformance disposition - Experience with requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, Jama) ## Why Blue Origin Blue Origin engineers are smart, creative, and empowered to succeed.
On MK1, you'll help land the largest and most complex vehicle ever sent to the moon. You'll support a steady series of missions: Endurance, VIPER, and NASA's Lunar Terrain Vehicles. You'll see your work go from requirements and test matrices all the way to flight hardware.
You'll also work alongside people from many backgrounds and industries who share one mission: millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. Ready to integrate the systems that will carry us to the lunar surface?
