Standard Job Description

Lockheed Martin Space is seeking a full‑time Principal Software Engineer with a strong systems‑architecture and software‑leadership background to define, drive, and deliver advanced software architectures for the TSWS (Theater Strike Weapon Systems) Portfolio of programs. In this senior technical leadership role, you will translate customer mission needs into implementable designs, resolve complex integration challenges, and guide technical decisions from concept through deployment and sustainment. Working alongside the Chief Engineer, program management, and multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will connect architecture and technology strategy to achievable delivery plans and measurable program value.

This position carries responsibility for an assigned program portfolio. You will lead across disciplines, mentor senior engineers, and advise program leadership and executives on technical choices, delivery risks, and future capability investments. Leveraging deep expertise in real‑time, fault‑tolerant software architecture, CI/CD automation, and system‑level integration, you will ensure rigorous, repeatable, and secure software development processes that meet stringent performance, safety, and schedule requirements within a fast‑paced, defense‑focused development environment.

Basic Qualifications

  • Own and deliver architecture through requirements, integration, and verification of operational systems
  • Apply deep technical expertise to evaluate cross‑disciplinary design choices in software‑intensive systems
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams to resolve complex technical and organizational challenges involving customers, suppliers, or partners
  • Translate engineering decisions into measurable outcomes for cost, schedule, risk, and customer value; brief executives and non‑specialist stakeholders with clear recommendations

Desired Skills

  • Senior leadership experience as a principal engineer, lead architect, deputy chief engineer, or technical lead for complex defense programs or product portfolios
  • Expertise in MBSE (Cameo/SysML), architecture governance, product‑line reuse, and Agile/DevSecOps/embedded‑distributed software delivery
  • Experience supporting technical proposals, R&D investments, technology maturation, supplier oversight, and earned value management (EVM)
  • Domain knowledge in mission‑critical systems (avionics, communications, autonomy, sensors) with familiarity into applicable safety and certification standards
