Questions about space jobs for veterans

Do space companies hire veterans?

Yes, and some say so in the posting. Of the 15,971 open space postings we read on 30 Oct 2026, 151 count military experience toward what they ask, for example Northrop Grumman: "Must have a Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university AND 12 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering;"; SpaceX: "Prior military, law enforcement, or security-related experience". The most are at Northrop Grumman, SpaceX, Lockheed Martin. Our research on degrees and experience counts them employer by employer.

Which space companies offer SkillBridge internships?

Right now Northrop Grumman (8), Amentum (1), KBR (1), Viasat (1), LeoLabs (2), Ursa Major (2), Intuitive Machines (1), Starfish Space (1): 17 open SkillBridge internships in all, listed on this page. SkillBridge lets service members gain civilian work experience through industry training, apprenticeships or internships during their last 180 days of service, and they keep receiving their military pay and benefits, according to the Department of War's SkillBridge site.

Who can take part in SkillBridge?

Service members in their last 180 days of service. They can be granted up to 180 days of permissive duty to train full time with an approved industry provider once their chain of command, a field grade commander, gives written authorization and approval, says the SkillBridge site. Each internship's posting states its own requirements, such as the clearance a role needs.

Does a security clearance help in the space industry?

It opens a large share of national security space work: 4,178 open roles name a clearance level in their own posting. Only US citizens can hold a US security clearance, and our guide to ITAR and security clearances explains the levels and how they are granted.

Can I work for the U.S. Space Force as a civilian?

Yes. 32 civilian roles at the U.S. Space Force are open on this board, and how to apply to the U.S. Space Force explains its application process.

How is this list made?

We read every open posting's text on the space employers' own job boards once a day. A role is listed when a line of its posting names military experience as a qualification ("professional or military experience", "prior military", "veterans are encouraged to apply"), and as a SkillBridge internship when its title names the program. The equal opportunity statement, which names veteran status in nearly every US posting, does not count. The same rule counts them in our research on degrees and experience.
