About the role

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

SR. ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY ENGINEER, CONSTRUCTION SAFETY (TERAFAB)

We are building Terafab, a vertically integrated semiconductor factory at an unprecedented scale. The facility houses logic, memory, packaging, test, and lithography mask production under one roof, optimized for rapid iteration and maximum compute density per square foot. Additionally, the campus will include power generation and compute testing facilities that will enable fully optimized development, operation, and testing of the fabrication facility and its products.

This position requires a dedicated environmental, health, and safety professional who will be able to use their skill, knowledge, and experience to further our Environmental Health and Safety programs within our fast-paced work environment that includes operations that have never been attempted before. You will bring deep experience in construction safety, preferably with experience in the semiconductor or power generation sectors. You will have the opportunity to work across multiple projects as the site evolves, and success depends on clear communication, strong cross-functional influence, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, high-change environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, implement, execute, and improve construction safety and contractor management programs at the Terafab location
  • Lead daily safety engagements with employees and contractors to drive safe operations across the site
  • Create, review and approve Purchase Orders and manage the operational budget for construction safety programs
  • Develop practical solutions that improve construction site safety, reduce incident rates, drive contractor engagement, and advance the overall EHS program
  • Investigate mishaps and develop sustainable improvement plans to reduce risk
  • Ensure EHS policies, practices, and procedures are understood and consistently followed by project teams, clients, and contractors
  • Collaborate with internal project teams and contractors to foster a strong safety culture that focuses on preventing serious incidents
  • Review and interpret new and proposed safety laws and regulations (with emphasis on construction-related requirements) and provide clear guidance to management
  • Provide training, coaching, and technical guidance to construction stakeholders on job hazard analyses (JHAs), safe work procedures, contractor onboarding, permits to work, and other key risk management tools to ensure consistent implementation of a robust construction safety program
  • Hold routine site/operation-wide Contractor Safety Steering Reviews to drive accountability for execution of EHS performance across contractor groups
  • Perform construction safety compliance audits, pre-task planning reviews, and contractor risk assessments to measure performance and facilitate risk reduction

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of experience in the design, development, and operational oversight of environmental, health, and safety programs with an emphasis on construction safety operations

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Construction Management, or related field (emphasis in Construction Safety preferred)
  • 10+ years of experience, preferably in construction safety
  • Demonstrated strong organizational and communication skills with a clear aptitude and desire to influence people
  • Hands-on experience leading multi-site or multi-contractor construction safety programs in high-risk or complex environments
  • Able to review as-built drawings, assess safety-in-design opportunities, and lead technical risk engineering solutions in the design-build environment
  • Strong knowledge and experience interpreting, applying, and documenting federal, state, and local construction safety regulations
  • Experience with fall protection, scaffolding, crane/heavy equipment safety, excavation, confined space, and contractor safety management (including contractor pre-qualification)
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
  • Professional certifications such as CSP, CHST, or equivalent preferred

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to work extended hours, weekends, and travel to construction sites as needed
  • Must be able to work in outdoor construction environments and wear required personal protective equipment
